Project:
Reception Wall Art Installation

Description:
Freshly moved into a newly designed building, Luke Snider, owner of Snider Orthotic Design, was looking for a feature piece to complete the new reception area. Luke wanted something subtle but intriguing, abstract, and related to the profession of orthotics and prosthetics.
He had the idea to incorporate a walk cycle into the art work. As a starting point, I filmed Luke walking from a side profile, then took screen shots of the film to mark different stages of the gait analysis. This would become the base for the design.
From there, the front and back legs of the walk cycle would become the positive and negative space layers of the piece, respectively.
A key component of the installation was the offsetting layers of the front and back panels. Each layer would be installed a few inches off the wall, as to allow shadows to cast onto the back panel and wall. The final touch to emphasize these shadows was to install lighting to cast from in front of and above the piece.
After the design was complete, local design and architecture firm Design Built used CNC machinery to bring it to life. Design Built took care of the final install, and we could not be happier with the result.
